Hello! I'm Stephanie and I will be your Seahawk Link for the Fall 2015 Semester! I am so, so, so excited to meet you all, but first, here is a little bit about me. I am a rising junior from Zebulon, North Carolina. My major is Recreation Therapy with a minor in Psychology. I am so happy to have chosen a school like UNCW and I love Wilmington! It has such a beautiful campus, and my favorite place to study is on the swing that overlooks the pond in front of Fisher. It is so relaxing and peaceful. My favorite UNCW tradition is Hawk It Out, which is UNCW's dance competition. I am a part of the committee, and the show is always so much fun. I love the beach (obviously, why else would you come here?!), spending time with my family and friends, and animals. I have decided to become a vegan and I am working hard to stick to my new lifestyle. Before graduation, I hope to have completely made the transition into a full vegan lifestyle. I hope that all aspects of my life reflect the compassion I have for animals.
Family is one of the most important things in my life. I have eight (that's right, 8!) siblings, and I adore them all. My siblings and I are so close and I can't imagine life without them. My mom is the most hardworking person I have ever met and I owe everything to her. She motivates me to work hard and succeed. I have made amazing friends since coming to Wilmington who have made me feel that I am where I am supposed to be. They push me to become a better person everyday, and never fail to make me smile. My boyfriend, Jose, is also a very big part of my life. He is so sweet and supportive in everything I do, and he always knows just how to cheer me up.
My favorite quote is, "There are always flowers for those who want to see them" by Henri Matisse. I love this quote so much because no matter what the situation, you can always choose happiness and choose to see the positive aspects of the situation. My advice for you is to always have an open mind. You are going to meet so many wonderful and different people with different lifestyles and beliefs, and keeping an open mind towards others will only help you to expand yours. This world is such a marvelous and diverse place, and to close your mind to the wonders of it is a disservice to yourself.
